Since the eclipse occurs in Ashlesha nakshatra our attention is further guided toward what is hidden. This nakshatra, presided over by the Nagas, these Serpent deities and wisdom keepers of esoteric knowledge and higher consciousness are central to the theme of this eclipse.
The word Ashlesha (Aśleṣā) is derived from the root śliṣ and means “to entwine, to cling, to embrace closely”. The symbol of the coiled serpent (nagas) is one key to the interpretation of the Solar eclipse in this nakshatra.
Serpents coil around something because they are protecting, containing, or possessing it. But if coiled too tightly, they can suffocate or strangle. Practically, this could be interpreted to manifest in our lives as unhealthy attachments, obsessions, or holding onto something or someone long after it was time to let go.
