By noon you have already handled three things that could not wait, and not one of them was the thing you planned to do.
One demanded you to stand your ground and absorb the friction. Another needed you to step back and leave it alone, and you are still not certain you managed either. A third is standing in front of you like a brick wall, refusing to budge, and you keep circling around it the way your tongue keeps finding a newly chipped tooth.
By the end of the day you cannot point to a single thing you finished. Underneath your tiredness is the quiet suspicion that the fault is entirely yours.
And yet, beneath your scattered thoughts, if you grow silent enough to feel for them there are subtle clues. Something is organizing itself below the surface, too far down to grasp, gathering toward a shape that promises to emerge later. The noise on top is real, but so is the order that is coming together in the undercurrent. July asks you to trust the order while at the same time enduring the noise.
July’s center of gravity lives in that hidden layer, the undercurrent. Mercury is retrograde and combust the Sun, and the New Moon in sidereal Gemini on July 14 seeds something that is not meant to be visible yet. It is germinating, softening in the dark before it sends up its first visible shoot.
We can all hope for some clarity once Mercury stations direct on July 23, even though the post-eclipse integration will take some time even after Mercury is direct. The full picture will not truly crystallize until September, when Mercury enters Virgo, the sign of its exaltation.
Beyond this central story, July’s remaining planetary movements are more widely dispersed across the zodiac than they have been since January.
Beneath all of it, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto and Uranus line up around 10º of their respective signs for a truly remarkable outer planet alignment near the end of July.

Mercury Retrograde and the New Moon
July 6–23 | New Moon: July 14
Mercury stations retrograde June 29 as of 5:35 PM UTC, stationing at 2°01’ Cancer. By July 6, Mercury retraces its steps and crosses the threshold back into its own sign, Gemini, where Mercury’s natural fluency and quickness should normally feel at home and expressive.
But there is no relaxing with Mercury’s homecoming during this retrograde cycle.
Within days of returning to Gemini on July 6, Mercury moves toward the Sun, becoming combust. The two are virtually inseparable from July 9 through July 17. Mercury is effectively invisible on July 12 when it passes between the Sun and Earth, its physical presence dominated entirely by solar rays.
On July 14, soon after its deepest combustion to the Sun, the New Moon occurs at 27°45’ Gemini, in Punarvasu nakshatra. This is a consequential event. The seed of this lunar cycle is planted just one degree from where Mercury was at peak combustion (26°28’ Gemini).
If you have planets between 25º- 27º degrees of Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius, or if your rising degree falls within this range, this New Moon activates your chart directly. Whatever houses these signs rule in your birth chart is worth watching closely once Mercury stations direct and we get through eclipse season in August.
The Mythology of Punarvasu Nakshatra
Punarvasu carries the mythology of return, of Budha’s own complicated homecoming, and of light that must withdraw before it can be restored. And the New Moon in this nakshatra, with Mercury retrograde and freshly combust, asks something quieter than the usual set your intentions ritual.
By July 28, a few days after stationing direct, Mercury surfaces from beneath the Sun's brightness and becomes visible again. The best time to observe it is at its greatest western elongation on August 2, about an hour before sunrise.

Gemini Rising: The only New Moon in 2026 in your first house in July 14 occurs within the final degrees of Gemini. Your chart ruler Mercury is retrograde and combust at the time and how you present yourself to the world is undergoing a massive overhaul. Whatever this New Moon seeds for you is deeply personal, working in the background while Mercury is at its least visible. Avoid the temptation to force clarity or make public declarations. Notice what slowly rises to the surface; an idea, a shift in self-perception, a question about direction, but without acting on it fully until September.
The new Moon in Punarvasu nakshatra suggests something valuable returning after withdrawal. This second chance may involve a re-visioned version of yourself, a path, or an identity you previously rejected. When Mercury stations direct and crosses this 25º-27º degree range at the end of the month, you will gain insights into what is quietly sprouting. What returns may not be identical, but it carries the same essence, and you can meet it more consciously now.
Virgo Rising: Your tenth house of career and public reputation lights up along with the New Moon on July 14. With Mercury combust and retrograde in your professional zone, July is not the month to launch a new venture or to expect recognition. Instead, this is a moment when something about your career trajectory or reputation is being quietly reworked beneath the surface, mirroring Punarvasu’s mythology of withdrawal and return.
Career-related matters that surface mid-month are more of a draft than a final version. Decisions or conversations that happen then will inevitably be revisited once Mercury stations direct on July 23. If a professional opportunity once felt unattainable, or if there was a path that previously didn’t pan out, Mercury’s transit through Punarvasu alongside the new Moon may bring a version of it back into view. You are getting a second chance at something you may have written off previously.
The Sun: Gemini into Cancer
Sun in Gemini July 1–16 | Sun in Cancer, July 16–August 16
During the first half of July, the Sun in Gemini is in lockstep with Mercury. The next chapter for Sun begins on July 16, crossing the threshold into sidereal Cancer, joining Jupiter.
This shift moves the solar focus away from the quick, communicative register of Gemini, into the deeply interior territory of home and emotional foundation. The exact same waters Jupiter has occupied since early June. This also marks the beginning of Sun’s slow approach to Jupiter, a journey that will ultimately overtake the giant planet and plunge it into its own period of combustion later in July.
As the Sun transits through early Cancer, it builds toward a confrontational aspect on July 26 with Pluto in Capricorn. The lord of the underworld and Sun oppose at 10°03’ Cancer–Capricorn. Pluto’s presence forces questions around power, control, what has been buried or denied, bringing these themes directly into conflict with the Sun’s expression as the king of the planets, and of identity and will.
The Sun–Pluto opposition occurs just three days before the Capricorn Full Moon on July 29. At the same time, Jupiter is cazimi, at the very heart of the Sun (also opposite Pluto), joining the tension that the upcoming Full Moon ultimately brings to a climax.

Leo Rising: For the first half of July, the Sun emphasizes social and business networks and financial gains while in Gemini. Mercury, lord of your second and eleventh houses, is also combust at that time. Money matters, income, personal values and the practical flow of resources, whether financial or social, are quietly being revamped. Results may not surface until after eclipse season in August.
On July 16, when the Sun moves into Cancer, the focus shifts to release and what lies within the subconscious mind. Pluto’s opposition to the Sun on July 26 brings unusual intensity to this unseen house, where questions of what is being spent, released, or hidden may surface. Jupiter is closely combust the Sun from July 20, so matters tied to children, investments, or creative projects may be reconsidered to emerge in September after eclipse season.
The Visible Void: Venus Conjunct Ketu in Leo
July 4–31 Venus Co-present with Ketu | Exact Conjunction: July 10
Venus moves into Leo in early July, leaving behind the more private, emotional qualities of Cancer for Leo’s brighter, more visible register. Venus here takes on something of the Sun’s need to be seen. Matters of beauty, pleasure, creativity, and personal value tend to become more apparent and performative, and are far less content to stay quietly tended in the background.
However, Ketu has been entrenched in Leo for over a year now, and on July 10, Ketu and Venus join at 6°25’ Leo in Magha nakshatra, the royal chamber of the ancestors. Ketu has a way of hollowing out whatever it touches. Not necessarily through literal loss, although it can be. Ketu’s spiritual detachment can represent a loosening of the grip on the very things Venus signifies during this transit.
Where rajasic Venus governs desires, aesthetics, and what feels worth pursuing, tamasic Ketu asks what happens when that wanting is taken away, either by choice or circumstance. The desire was never wrong. A deeper, inward shift has already moved us past needing it the same way we once did.
This is also a slow-building month energetically for Venus due to secondary planetary pressure from Mars in Taurus. Mars influences Venus from the moment it enters Leo. The aspect becoming exact on July 28, just as the aftermath of the Venus-Ketu conjunction is settling.
This creates the equivalent of a cosmic tug-of-war: Mars pushes Venus toward urgent action, passion, and immediate desire, while Ketu, co-present with Venus, demands the absolute opposite… detachment, release, and letting go. This configuration comes to a head around July 28. Check your birth chart for the house and sign that is Leo, it is uniquely shaped by both planetary signatures at once: intense drive on one side, and total surrender on the other.

Libra Rising: Venus, your chart ruler, conjoins Ketu in Leo emphasizing financial gains, older siblings, long-term aspirations, and the company you keep personally and professionally on the path to reaching your goals. With your chart ruler here, whatever shifts in this house will likely be felt directly and personally. Ketu’s presence here for the past year suggests a loosening around what you thought you wanted from your community or your social circle, or maybe a goal that once felt important is no longer a priority. Or a network you worked hard to build does not hold the same attraction. This can come as a relief, realizing you no longer need to pursue something you may have already outgrown. Mars is also making himself known through a strong aspect to Venus and Ketu that is exact on July 28. Mars wants action, while Ketu is saying no, maybe not that, not anymore. Mars and Uranus in Taurus: Sudden Breaks, Slow Discipline
July 1–28 | Exact Conjunction: July 3
July opens with Mars conjunct Uranus in Taurus, becoming exact on July 3 at 9°38’ in Krittika, the nakshatra ruled by Agni and associated with the cutting flame. Krittika carries a quality of sharp, decisive action, the kind that severs cleanly rather than holding long negotiations. While Mars brings drive and assertion, Uranus brings unexpected disruption, innovation and a tremendous desire for freedom. Together in earthy, value-oriented Taurus, this conjunction has the feel of a sudden break in something that had previously felt stable or settled. A core value, a resource, or a sense of what could be counted on may shift abruptly and without much warning.
This conjunction does not occur in isolation. Saturn, still in Pisces (through March 2028), casts its third aspect to Mars and Uranus in Taurus. Saturn’s influence emphasizes effort, discipline, and taking slow and steady steps toward a goal. None of which Mars or Uranus are inclined toward. Because Saturn moves slowly, this influence to planets transiting Taurus has been building as part of Saturn’s broader, long-term presence in Pisces with Neptune.
The sharp break Mars and Uranus create at the start of July is positioned directly inside a slower structure that Saturn has already been building, and what happens next will depend entirely on whether there is true discipline behind the spark.
