The fundamental astrological qualities of September are shifting dramatically from August. The eclipses last month asked us to sit with the shadows and turn our gaze inward.
With eclipse season in the rear-view mirror, and the natural benefics strong, functional and (mostly) free from affliction, there is finally some room to exhale. And some time to consider what the previous disruptions that came up during eclipse season were pointing toward in our lives. As the month progresses we will understand the layers that are coming out of the shadows.
Sometimes it’s difficult to understand what no longer works until you try and put it back together again, try to recreate it or have an experience exactly as it once was. Think of it like returning fifteen years later to a magical vacation spot, expecting the same fabulous experience as the last time. But somehow everything has changed. New developments, new roads, new restaurants, beaches erode, forests are clear cut, and everything just feels… different.
September is fertile ground for determining what still belongs and what no longer fits.
But the major planetary headline for September begins mid-month when Mars joins Jupiter in Cancer. As the full Moon in Pisces closes out the month with Saturn and Neptune, the emphasis returns to one of the most sensitive degrees in the sky – the tenth degree, which I wrote about in a recent Substack article: The Tenth Degree.
Venus Enters Libra: The Homecoming
September 2
Venus moves into its own sign and moolatrikona degree range (0º to 15º), which is a strong and supportive place for Venus, second only to its exaltation strength in Pisces. For Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries rising, Venus forms a temporary Malavya yoga in the house it occupies by transit.
Select Rising Sign Guidance
Libra: Venus coming home to your first house is a major sigh of relief, supporting your first house of self, vitality, and physical expression. This transit defines a period where personal magnetism, charm, and overall well-being are getting a major boost. How you present yourself to the world and the kind of energetic footprint you want to leave behind is the contemplation for the next three months since Venus will go retrograde in Libra early October. Use the Venus in Libra transit window through late September to contemplate where you may want to reset your personal priorities or refresh your aesthetic. Lean into what brings you genuine comfort and self-appreciation.
Taurus: For the next few months, Venus takes on daily activities, wellness and work (not a favorite of Venus!), focusing its harmonious and supportive dynamic toward the mechanics of daily life. This transit supports tapping into ease, balance, and finding enjoyment in the daily grind. When Venus stations retrograde early October, take a breath. It's time to streamline that cluttered schedule, elevate your workspace, or inject a little luxury into your daily routine. If your days have felt chaotic, bring some balance back into your rhythm.
Capricorn: Venus is at the top of your chart, emphasizing career and professional prestige. Tap into the charismatic qualities of Venus to enhance your public-facing life. Since Venus forms a temporary Malavya yoga for Capricorn lagnas, professional interactions and creative work related to your career path get a distinct tailwind. New ideas are generally received well and diplomacy produces much better results than usual. Due to the retrograde phase coming up, Venus will spend most of fourth quarter in Libra. If recent eclipse disruptions left you feeling unsettled about your professional path, this transit supports reconsidering your goals in order to be more aligned with your long-term values.
Mercury Enters Virgo: Exaltation Under Pressure
September 7 – November 5 | Exact Opposition with Saturn September 18
Mercury finally arrives in its exaltation sign, but it does so under the watchful gaze of Saturn (from Pisces) and the fiery influence of Mars (from Gemini). On the positive side, this can create tremendous capacity for strategic thinking. But the pressures from these two malefics simultaneously can also create a push-pull dynamic between overthinking issues and being stuck in a mental loop vs. overreacting and then making hasty decisions.
Mercury’s exaltation status forms a Bhadra Yoga for the dual rising signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) and provides a level of support for all other rising signs. But keep in mind Mercury is still under a tremendous amount of pressure, and this is especially true while the aspect from Saturn is applying to Mercury from September 2 – 18. Mars also makes the move from Gemini to Cancer on September 18, releasing Mercury from his fiery influence.
Select Rising Sign Guidance
Gemini: September’s focus is on home and your emotional foundation. Mercury in Virgo and the 4th house is on point for a staycation or just spending time on inner emotional healing. The simultaneous pressure from Saturn (ruler of the 8th and 9th) and Mars (ruler of the 6th and 11th) has the capacity to turn DIY projects into a pressure cooker. There is potential to over-think issues that come up this month that could trigger some old anxieties. September is all about being mindful of balancing career, day to day responsibilities, and the need to carve out some space to breathe and find peace at home. The final two weeks of the month will be much lighter since Mars changes signs, and Mercury will have passed the exact opposition degree to Saturn by September 18.
Virgo: Your chart ruler finds its way home, but this once-a-year return to Virgo and Mercury’s exaltation sign is not without some struggle. Even with the temporary Bhadra yoga that Mercury creates, the combined influences from Saturn and Mars to your first house and Mercury can apply extra pressure from relationships or career, which can manifest as a push-pull effect between wanting to spend time with a partner but also dealing with a high stress situation at work. Things lighten up considerably once Mars leaves Gemini for Cancer mid-month. Allow your natural abilities to do the work without too much second guessing your decision this month.
Sun Shifts from Leo to Virgo: The King and the Servant
Virgo September 16 – October 15 | Co-present with Mercury, Opposite Saturn
Sun leaves the arid comfort zone of Leo for the analytical sign of Virgo mid-month. Sun is well supported by Mercury while in Virgo, but as with Mercury it too receives the steady and scrutinizing gaze from Saturn during the month long stay in Virgo. The exact opposition with Saturn builds toward the end of the month, becoming exact October 4. Stay humble, pay attention to the details and set your expectations in a realistic manner.
Leo: The Sun gets to enjoy a few weeks basking in the light in its own sign once eclipse season has passed. Enjoy the first few weeks of September, because once Sun moves into Virgo, your focus will be redirected to finances and budgets. Saturn’s influence supports ferreting out any unnecessary expenditures, while Mars may want you to just pass over some of the details and move on to the next line item. It is a great time to do an audit and start your mid-year prep for 2026 taxes and create a solid plan for long-term savings.
The Wisdom Guide and the Warrior: Mars in Cancer
September 18 – November 12 | Co-present with Jupiter
On September 18, Mars leaves Gemini and enters its debilitation sign of Cancer. This is a huge shift from Mars transiting through Gemini.
Because of its debilitation in Cancer, Mars cannot express its natural fiery attributes comfortably. Its innate instinct to act decisively and with courage is water logged. Water signs lean toward containment, emotional connection and intuition. With Mars transiting Cancer we may take action before completely understanding the underlying emotion. Even though Mars technically neecha bhange (cancellation of debilitation) due to the conjunction with Jupiter in its exaltation sign, it still does not change the fact that Mars is filtered through the one water sign where it is supremely uncomfortable. Their combined planetary qualities create an opportunity for expansion and action, nourishment and conflict, protections and assertion. The impulsive nature of Mars in Cancer is stabilized by Jupiter but not entirely eliminated.
Select Rising Sign Guidance
Aries: Mars spends the first half of September moving through the final ten degrees of Gemini before heading into Cancer and your fourth house on September 18. Cancer is the least comfortable sign for your chart ruler Mars. Your usual fiery drive shifts from the “just get it done” ethos into a slower moving, emotional perspective. The instinct to move fast and get things done can be influenced emotional undercurrents during this transit through Cancer. Be aware that impulsive actions may stem from feelings that aren’t consciously processed, especially around issues at home base or with your mother. Jupiter’s presence offers an anchor along with a supportive influence to slow down and spend time on self-care, redecorating, or healing family dynamics. Use this transit through Cancer to steady emotions while consciously resisting the urge to overreact.
Scorpio: The final two weeks of Mars in your 8th house is almost over! The airy, scattered energy of dualistic Gemini and the restless airy energy will dissipate and take a dramatic turn as Mars moves into watery Cancer and the journey moves toward wisdom, philosophy, and higher learning (9th house matters). These qualities are also tied to vulnerability, depth of emotion, and the ability to surrender control. Some of the warrior Mars’ least favorite experiences. This transit through Cancer forces an individual to feel the way through belief systems. Spirituality is a deeply internal process of wrestling with emotional undertows, letting go of ego-driven assertion, and finding strength where your vulnerabilities are most exposed.
Long-Term Planetary Influences
Jupiter remains in Cancer through June 25, 2027 and is in supportive trines to Scorpio and Pisces. If you would like to read more about this transit and read your rising sign guide, you can find the article here.
Rahu and Ketu complete their transit through Aquarius and Leo, respectively, changing signs in late November. The August eclipses were the final two eclipses for this 18-month transit in Leo and Aquarius.
Saturn and Neptune continue their slow roll through Pisces. Saturn is retrograde now through December 10, and Neptune through December 12. I wrote a three-part series on this transit and the many nuances that these two planets create.
Uranus and Pluto are both retrograde and hovering around the 9º-11º degree mark, eventually coming back around to trigger the sensitive 12º mid-point in the US chart that was activated earlier this year. [Foundation Under Seige: The Uranus Pluto Mid-Point in the US Chart]
From the Author’s Desk
I hope August was a smooth month for you! After the intensity of eclipse season we are finally moving into some new planetary patterns and energies. Even though the eclipses are technically behind us, it can take some time for things to come back into focus and to figure out what is emerging from the darkness. Patience is the mantra for September. – Pamela

Libra rising and Taurus Sun, double venus here woohoo! Excited how September is going unfold for me. 🤗😄
Oh yes! And Venus retrograde coming up in October, which I will be writing about in depth late September! 💖
