Fault Lines: The Shadow Docket, USPS and the November Midterms

What the U.S. chart's Rahu-Ketu Dasha reveals about the mail-in voting fight in the Supreme Court.

I recently published an article about the August 27-28 Lunar eclipse in Shatabisha nakshatra, looking at it through the lens of the ancient art of Kintsugi and healing.

That article was personal because healing, ultimately, is personal. Much like with Kintsugi, we have to resolve within our physical and emotional body what can be repaired, what has to change, and what can never be restored to its original state or form.

These same questions, however, are much more complex when we look at them from the perspective of the collective and the mundane chart for the US.

What happens when the vessel that requires healing is that of a nation?

A country can have fractures within its systems and society that have been patched for years, even decades. The surface may look cohesive while the underlying structure continues to shift. Sometimes the cracks become visible only when something comes along that puts pressure on it, much like an already weakened joint in the body.

Healing starts with the individual as part of a family, community, and nation. But these societal systems have fractures of their own. This is where the mundane chart for the U.S. becomes particularly interesting.

From Personal Healing to Collective Fractures

The August 27–28 Lunar Eclipse occurred at 10°40’ Aquarius in Shatabhisha nakshatra. This eclipse came at a time when existing fault lines of the U.S. are being exposed through the courts: immigration policy, executive power, and the electoral process to name a few. These fault lines are widening along with the increasingly bitter divide between political parties that hold vastly different visions of what the United States should represent and their place in the world at large, and who should be included in the future vision of the country.

Where the Pressure Builds: The Battle Over Mail-In Voting

On August 21, the U.S. Postal Service released a 95 page rule tightening requirements surrounding mail-in and absentee ballots ahead of the November elections. The timing is striking.

The new USPS rule follows Executive Order 14399, signed by President Trump on March 31, 2026, which directs federal agencies to develop new mechanisms for verifying citizenship and instructed the Postal Service to begin creating rules related to mail-in voting. (The White House)

This is all happening as a federal court has preliminarily blocked implementation of the portion of the executive order related to USPS and mail-in ballots for the November 2026 election. The legal question before the Supreme Court is not whether the executive order is legal, but whether the injunction should remain in place while the litigation proceeds. (Justia Dockets & Filings)

The USPS rule itself illustrates why this has become such a consequential issue. The proposed standards involve changes to the handling and identification of ballot mail, including unique barcodes and information associated with mail-in and absentee ballot participation. (Federal Register Public Inspection)

There are a series of events that led up to this recent change to mail in voting that prompted me to begin the research for this article. The astrology does not determine whether a policy is right or wrong, nor does it take the place of a legal or political analysis.

Through the mundane analysis of the US chart, what it can show us is where pressure is building, and which parts of the national structure are being activated. And when previously contained fractures might begin to be more visible or even shatter.

So before looking at the individual pieces of the U.S. chart, let’s first look at the eclipse itself.

The Cracks Beneath the Surface: The Lunar Eclipse and the US Chart

What happens when a country has been operating with cracks that have been plastered over but not fully repaired and reformed? What does restoring wholeness mean for a country and for those living in it?

Before getting into the analysis for the US chart, let’s go back over the mechanics of the Lunar eclipse.

The Lunar Eclipse Sidereal Chart August 27-28

Uranus creates the hinge point of the square between Sun, Moon, and Mercury. At the same time, Mercury is combust within one degree of the Sun. The Lunar eclipse also occurs at a very sensitive degree for the US chart: the tenth degree, which I wrote about in detail in this recent article, The Tenth Degree: An Extraordinary Outer Planet Alignment. Later in this article we will see how this becomes an important trigger in this case study.

The U.S. Sidereal Chart: Mapping the Fault Lines

The most obvious crack in the nation at this time is that the people and the U.S. government are currently so divided that it seems as though the pieces may never come together again. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are fractured. History has told this same story before, but in the age of technology and social media, the echo chambers for both sides are heavily amplified and monetized.

The society, or We the People of the United States, is represented by the 4th house, Pisces, while the government is represented by the 10th house, Virgo. Saturn, lord of the 3rd house of communication, correspondence, and how information flows is now transiting the 4th house and aspecting the 10th in the U.S. chart.

But there is another layer to this conflict. The 9th house represents higher law, constitutional principles and the judiciary, bringing the question beyond a simple struggle between the people (4th house) and the executive authority (10th house). The deeper question is whether governmental authority is operating within the limits established by the nation’s foundational law, and who ultimately has the authority to decide where those limits lie. In this chart, the 4th, 9th and 10th houses therefore describe three distinct but increasingly entangled centers of authority: the people, the law and the government.

These fault lines run across some of the most foundational questions in society today: Do immigration policy and ICE actions represent protection or overreach? Is DEI a correction or discrimination? To what extent should federal civil rights laws override state-level restrictions on LGBTQ+ rights? What defines birthright citizenship? Is health care a citizen’s right? Do federal restrictions on mail-in voting secure the ballot box or disenfranchise eligible voters? And finally, how much power should the executive branch wield?

Not the least of these divides, decades-old constitutional interpretations are being challenged and overturned by SCOTUS: women’s bodily autonomy, church and state separation, EPA deregulation, workers’ protection rules, and affirmative action in higher education, to name a few.

Regardless of the headline of the day, these issues are not the crack, but where the crack is revealed.

Another consequential case before the Supreme Court is related to Executive Order 14399 (”Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections”), signed March 31, 2026.
